グラビアアイドル、川村ゆきえ（２１）が２３日、トレーディングカード「ヒッツ！リミテッド 川村ゆきえ」（ヒッツ、１パック５２５円）の発売記念イベントを東京・神田神保町の書泉ブックマートで行った。
トレカでは１メートル５８、Ｂ８７Ｗ５９Ｈ８７のマシュマロボディーを惜しげもなく披露。撮影は２月にハワイで行ったが「ハワイなのに寒くて、海に入れませんでした」と残念がった。
会話がなかなか弾まない。相手はウガンダのコーヒー豆製造大手「ジゴティ・コーヒー・ワークス」の日本法人社長のローズ・カトーさん（５０）。ウガンダの女性経営者である。
事前にジゴティ社のことは調べておいたのだが、ウガンダという国についての知識がほぼ皆無だったのが失敗だった。
ウガンダといわれても、「アフリカの…」から言葉が続かない。世界地図を見せられ、ウガンダがアフリカのどこに位置するのか指し示すことすらできないのだ。自分の勉強不足をのろってももう遅い。
日本では南米産のコーヒーが有名だが、ウガンダもコーヒー大国。コーヒー豆生産量はアフリカ第２位、世界でも第１０位。インターネットで検索すると、日本にもウガンダ産コーヒーの愛飲家は多いなど、初めて知ることばかり。何よりも驚いたのはカトーさんが控えめで、細かな気配りのできる経営者だったことだ。
ウガンダ人にも、日本人にも押しの強い人もいれば、控えめな人もいるだろう。それでも勝手に思い描いていた陽気なアフリカ女性とは全く違った。
予定の取材開始時間が少し遅れそうになると、顔を出して「申し訳ございません」と丁寧に頭を下げる。質問に対しても、言葉を選びながら慎重に答えていく。
誠実で優しげな表情だが、取材に緊張しているのかそこに笑みはない。それとも、勉強不足で焦り始めたこちらの気持ちが伝わったのか…。
カトーさんの表情が緩んだのはコーヒーの感想を告げたとき。自然栽培されたウガンダ産コーヒーはマイルドで、しかもコクがあり、思わず「おいしいですね」と漏らすと、初めて笑顔をみせた。
アイドルの川村ゆきえ（２１）が、ＣＭキャラクターを務めるポッカの新コーヒー「ビズタイムカフェ」をＰＲするため、東京・大手町のサンケイスポーツを訪れた。ひざ上２０センチの生足を全開させたＯＬスタイルで現れ、「おいしくてグイグイ飲めます。フタ付きなので持ち歩くのにも便利。ブラック派の私とコーヒーを飲んで、さっぱりしてお仕事頑張りましょう」と呼びかけた。
